Landing Mat FAQs

What's the difference between a landing mat and a crash mat?
The terms are used interchangeably in most gyms — both describe a thick, soft mat that absorbs the impact of a landing. In our lineup, thinner landing mats (4"-8") are what coaches use for skill progressions and dismounts, while the thickest builds act as a true crash pad for big-air work.
How thick should a landing mat be?
4"-8" covers most skill training, dismounts, and everyday club use, giving cushion without swallowing the athlete. 10"-12" is what you want under high-release skills, vault, and bar dismounts where the fall distance is greater. Landing Mats run 4" to 12"; if you need more depth than that, the Fat Mat goes up to 16" in the 8x12 size. Thicker also means softer, so match the thickness to the skill, not just the athlete. What size landing mat do I need for home use?
Most home setups land on a 4x8 — it fits a garage or basement bay and still gives a full landing zone. If you have the space, 5x10 gives more margin on off-center landings. Measure your ceiling height too, not just the floor.
Are landing mats safe for beginners learning back handsprings?
A landing mat gives beginners a softer surface while they build the skill, and coaches commonly use one for spotting progressions. Softer is not automatically better — too much give makes it hard to feel a stable landing. Work with a qualified coach on progressions and supervision.
Are these made in the USA?
Yes. Landing mats and fat mats are manufactured in the USA by our family-owned company, building athletic mats for over 65 years.
How long does delivery take?
Landing mats are made to order in your chosen size, thickness, fold, and color from our 16 standard colors. Plan on a 4-5 week lead time before shipping.
